International & Local Economics Career Summit 2025
The Economics Career Summit 2025 brought together 60 of Uzbekistan’s top Economics students for a full day of expert talks, mentorship, and hands-on career development. The speaker lineup included leading professionals such as Dr. Obid Khakimov, Director of the Center for Economic Research & Reforms, who discussed Uzbekistan’s national economic strategy. Mukhammadaziz Adilov (KPMG Deal Advisory) shared internship-hunting insights, Sukhrob Murodov(Deloitte) spoke about starting a career in the Big 4, and Abdurashid Abdusalomov provided guidance on graduate admissions for top Economics programs, including UChicago.The program featured a group case challenge on youth employment policy reform, personalized internship and graduate-school roadmaps, and career simulations with rotating mentorship.Participants described the event as professional, global, and highly motivating, comparing it to world-class corporate campus days. Mathematics for Economics: Summer Intensive
New Uzbekistan University hosted the “Mathematics for Economics: Summer Intensive” from May 26 to June 13. The program offered students a comprehensive opportunity to deepen their understanding of calculus, linear algebra, optimization, and statistics, all tailored specifically for practical applications in economics and finance. Participants engaged in hands-on labs, financial modeling exercises in Excel, and real-world case studies analyzing Uzbekistan’s economy. The course was led by top international faculty and guest speakers, providing expert guidance and insights into modern economic analysis. Designed for students with basic knowledge of calculus and linear algebra, the intensive equipped attendees with both the theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed to tackle complex economic problems.

YESU Insight Series
New Uzbekistan University hosted a YESU Insight Series event titled “Successful Careers in Economics.” The session featured experts Sergei Rivkin, Deputy Chief Risk Officer at Uzum; Obid Khakimov, Director of the Center for Economic Research and Reforms; and Rasim Mutlu, Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at New Uzbekistan University. They discussed how economists use theory and data analysis to tackle real-world issues such as market shifts, inequality, and policy impacts. Participants explored career paths in finance, consulting, public policy, and innovation, and were introduced to the new Master’s Program in Economics and Data Science at the university. The event took place on May 7 at U.C.A., 2nd floor, and was conducted in English.

Research Workshop with Shirin Shuxratova
New Uzbekistan University hosted a lecture by Shirin Shukhratova, Senior Researcher at TBC Bank, titled “What Do We Really Want? How Research Helps Create the Right Products in FinTech.” During the session, participants learned about the difference between needs, demands, and desires, how research identifies and implements needs effectively, when research is unnecessary, types of research and tools, common mistakes made by junior specialists, and explored practical case studies. The lecture took place on April 26 at 16:00 in U.C.A., 2nd floor, and was conducted in Russian.

Georgiy Paresishvili: Capital Market and Exchange
New Uzbekistan University hosted a lecture by Georgiy Paresishvili, CEO of the Tashkent Stock Exchange and independent board member of Microcreditbank. Drawing on over 30 years of experience in developed and emerging markets, he discussed the capital market and the role of stock exchanges in the economy. Participants learned about capital market instruments, the structure and participants of primary and secondary markets, the functions of exchanges in ensuring liquidity, transparency, and fair pricing, as well as trends and development prospects in global and local markets. The lecture, held on April 22 at U.C.A., 2nd floor, was conducted in English and Russian and attracted students and professionals interested in finance, economics, business, and investment.

Sustainability practices of Private equity investors
The lecture explored the intersection of private equity, sustainability, and entrepreneurial finance with Dr. Paul P. Momtaz, DSS Professor at the Technical University of Munich and visiting professor at Wharton. Dr. Momtaz, a leading specialist with academic degrees from UCLA and Cambridge, discussed the fundamentals of LBOs, explained how private equity can reduce toxic waste by 8%, examined the influence of sustainability certifications on environmental policy, and highlighted how entrepreneurial finance supports the transition toward a net-zero economy. Held on March 15 at New Uzbekistan University, the event brought together students and professionals interested in economics, business, sustainability, and the environmental impact of entrepreneurship.

Lecture: "East European Big-Bangs and The Political Economy Of the US"
The lecture at New Uzbekistan University featured Prof. Dr. Theoxaris Grigoriadis from the Free University of Berlin, ranked 104th globally. He discussed the mass migration from Eastern Europe to the United States between 1850 and 1940 and examined how this migration shaped American political and cultural life, particularly its influence on election processes. Prof. Grigoriadis, a Yale graduate with a PhD from the University of California and a recognized scholar in political economy, economic history, and comparative economic systems, delivered valuable insights.
